OwnKeep is built to help you organize warranties, receipts, product photographs, proof of ownership, return deadlines, and home-inventory records while keeping you in control of that information.
This Privacy Policy explains how OwnKeep handles information when you use the OwnKeep iPhone or iPad app, the OwnKeep website, or contact us for support. In this policy, “OwnKeep,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to Edin Heric, the independent developer of OwnKeep.
At a glance
- OwnKeep does not require an OwnKeep account.
- Your vault is stored on your device by default.
- If you enable iCloud sync or household sharing, your vault is stored using Apple CloudKit in your private or shared iCloud database.
- Receipt recognition, warranty-document recognition, and supported photo processing run on your device.
- OwnKeep does not sell personal information, serve third-party advertising, or build advertising profiles.
- OwnKeep does not operate a separate server that stores your vault.
- Product recall checks send the item brand or product name to the public U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall service.
- You decide when to export or share records.
1. Information handled by OwnKeep
Information you add to your vault
Depending on the features you use, your vault may contain:
- product names, brands, models, serial numbers, categories, locations, and notes;
- purchase dates, merchants, prices, quantities, condition, and estimated values;
- manufacturer, retailer, return-window, and extended-warranty details;
- claim contacts, service history, ownership history, and coverage notes;
- product photographs, receipts, invoices, warranty cards, policy documents, and other attachments;
- property, room, storage-location, insurance-policy, and claim-event information;
- household name, sharing preferences, reminder choices, language, currency, and other app preferences.
OwnKeep stores this information locally on your device unless you enable an iCloud feature or intentionally export or share it.
Information processed on your device
OwnKeep may use Apple frameworks on your device to:
- recognize text in receipts, invoices, and warranty documents;
- suggest editable product, merchant, date, price, category, and coverage information;
- crop, isolate, or improve product photographs;
- authenticate with Face ID or the device passcode when Privacy Lock is enabled; and
- create PDF, CSV, backup, warranty-passport, and claim-packet files.
OwnKeep does not receive or store your Face ID biometric template. Authentication is performed by iOS, and OwnKeep receives only the result needed to lock or unlock the app.
Local diagnostic events
OwnKeep records limited event names in Apple’s local unified logging system—for example, that a warranty was added or a sync was attempted. These logs are intended for app operation and debugging. They do not include product names, prices, receipts, notes, photographs, document contents, or vault identifiers, and OwnKeep does not transmit them to an OwnKeep analytics server.
Apple may provide developers with diagnostic or crash information if you choose to share analytics with developers in your device settings. Apple controls that collection under its own privacy terms.
2. When information leaves your device
Optional iCloud sync and household sharing
If you enable iCloud sync, OwnKeep uses Apple CloudKit to store a copy of your vault in the iCloud account signed in on your device. If you create or join a shared household, records you choose to share are made available through CloudKit to invited participants.
OwnKeep does not maintain a separate account database for this content and does not use your iCloud vault for advertising. Apple processes iCloud and CloudKit data under Apple’s terms and privacy policy. People with access to a shared household may be able to view, add, edit, export, or delete shared content according to the permissions and features available in the app. Only invite people you trust.
Product recall checks
When OwnKeep performs a recall check, it sends the item’s brand or product name to the public U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall service at SaferProducts.gov. The service returns possible recall matches. OwnKeep does not send your receipt, photograph, serial number, notes, price, address, insurance information, or other attachment as part of that search.
The CPSC may receive standard network information, including an IP address and the requested search URL, and states that its web logs may be retained for up to three years. OwnKeep treats the product or brand query as search history used only to provide recall-check functionality. OwnKeep does not use it for advertising or tracking and does not keep a copy on an OwnKeep server. See the CPSC Privacy and Security Notice for the agency’s practices.
Recall results are best-effort and may include similar products or omit a relevant notice. Always confirm the exact model and serial number on the linked official recall page.
App Store purchases
Subscriptions, lifetime purchases, restorations, billing, and refunds are processed by Apple through the App Store and StoreKit. OwnKeep receives purchase-status information needed to unlock paid features, but it does not receive or store your full payment-card details. Apple handles purchasing information under Apple’s terms and privacy policy.
Exports and sharing
When you create a PDF, CSV, backup, warranty passport, or claim packet, the file remains under your control. It leaves OwnKeep only when you save, export, or share it through a destination you choose, such as Files, Mail, Messages, AirDrop, or another app. The destination’s privacy practices apply after you share the file.
Support communications
If you contact us, we may receive your name, email address, message, screenshots, diagnostic details, and any files you choose to attach. We use that information to answer your request, troubleshoot the issue, protect the app, and maintain a reasonable record of support communications. Please do not send receipts, policy documents, serial numbers, or other sensitive material unless it is necessary for your request and you are comfortable sharing it.
Website hosting
The OwnKeep website is hosted through Cloudflare. When you visit the website, Cloudflare may process standard request information such as your IP address, browser and device information, requested URL, date and time, referring page, and security or diagnostic events to deliver, secure, and operate the site. Cloudflare handles that information under its own terms and privacy commitments. OwnKeep does not use the website to build an advertising profile.
3. Permissions
OwnKeep requests access only when you use a related feature:
- Camera: to photograph items, receipts, warranty cards, and supporting evidence.
- Photo library: to import photographs and images you select.
- Notifications: to deliver local warranty, return-window, recall, review, and other reminders you enable.
- Face ID or device authentication: to operate the optional Privacy Lock.
- Files and share destinations: to import documents or save and share exports you request.
You can change permissions in iOS Settings. Some features may not work without the related permission.
4. Notifications
OwnKeep schedules local notifications on your device based on dates and reminder intervals you choose. OwnKeep does not use an OwnKeep push-notification server to send marketing messages. Delivery is controlled by iOS and is not guaranteed; do not rely on a notification as your only record of a time-sensitive deadline.
5. How we use information
We use information only as reasonably necessary to:
- provide features you request;
- store, organize, sync, share, export, and protect your records;
- calculate warranty, return, readiness, and inventory information;
- perform best-effort product recall checks;
- confirm App Store purchase status;
- answer support requests;
- diagnose problems and improve reliability; and
- comply with applicable law and protect users, the app, and our rights.
6. What we do not do
OwnKeep does not:
- sell or rent personal information;
- use third-party advertising SDKs;
- track you across other companies’ apps or websites for advertising;
- use vault contents to build a marketing profile; or
- operate a public social network or public inventory directory.
If those practices change, we will update this policy and any required App Store privacy disclosures before the change applies.
7. Retention and deletion
Local records remain on your device until you delete an item, delete all local data in OwnKeep, remove the app, restore a backup that replaces the data, or the device removes the data under iOS behavior.
If you use iCloud, copies may remain in your private or shared CloudKit database until they are deleted through OwnKeep, removed by the owner of a shared record, or deleted through applicable iCloud controls. Turning off sync does not necessarily delete an existing iCloud copy. Apple provides controls for reviewing and deleting data stored in iCloud by third-party apps.
Exports and backups remain wherever you saved or shared them until you delete them there. Other household participants may retain copies they previously exported.
Support communications are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary to respond, maintain support history, protect the service, and meet legal obligations, after which they are deleted or de-identified where reasonably practicable.
8. Your choices and controls
You can:
- use OwnKeep without creating an OwnKeep account;
- keep your vault local by leaving iCloud features disabled;
- choose which records and people participate in household sharing;
- enable or disable individual reminder intervals;
- revoke camera, photo, notification, and Face ID permissions in iOS Settings;
- edit or delete individual records and attachments;
- use Settings → Delete all local warranties to clear OwnKeep’s local vault data;
- manage OwnKeep data through your iCloud settings when iCloud is enabled; and
- export a copy of your records in available formats.
Because OwnKeep has no separate user-account server, there is no OwnKeep account to delete. If you need help locating a control, contact {{ cfg.privacyEmail }}.
9. Security
OwnKeep uses Apple platform protections and offers an optional Face ID or device-passcode Privacy Lock. iCloud data is protected by Apple’s security controls. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Keep your device passcode private, install iOS updates, review household participants, and keep an independent backup of important records.
10. Children’s privacy
OwnKeep is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children through an OwnKeep account or advertising service. If you believe a child has sent personal information to us through support, contact {{ cfg.privacyEmail }} so we can review and delete it where appropriate.
11. International users
OwnKeep can be used in multiple languages and currencies. Local data stays on your device. If you enable iCloud, Apple may process and store data in locations described in Apple’s terms and privacy documentation. If you contact us, your communication may be processed in the country where OwnKeep operates.
12. Third-party services and links
OwnKeep may interact with or link to services operated by others, including Apple, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, manufacturers, retailers, warranty providers, insurers, Mail, Messages, Files, and apps you choose through the share sheet. Their privacy practices and terms apply to their services. A link does not mean OwnKeep controls or endorses every statement on the destination site.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect new features, legal requirements, or changes in how OwnKeep operates. We will change the “Last updated” date and provide any additional notice required by law. If a change materially affects how vault information is handled, we will provide appropriate notice before the change takes effect.
